In an era when it seems every DJ shows up to gigs carrying something smaller than a kid’s lunchbox, Doorly is the exception to this rule. Using a set up that would make even Zabiela blush (3 CDJs, 2 1210s, EFX unit and Pioneer 800 to be precise), when he says he’s DJing live, he means it. Everything that you hear in is set his being created in the mix, there and then. With energy only comparable to Carl Coxs’ early 3 deck gigs in the rave era, Doorly's movement behind the decks is relentless, armed with the finest accapellas, instrumentals, bootlegs, edits and re-rubs, he switches between musical genres with ease. Playing a mix of house, breaks, techno and electro, mixed in with ample doses of indie and hip hop, expect the unexpected as it’s all about the party with Doorly. His style may best be classified as an old school block party DJ using new school technology.
His first big break came when he was made a resident for London super club, Ministry of Sound, for their hugely successful Milkshake night, where he spend 3 years honing his mash up style. Over the years he has played in some amazing venues both in the UK and aboard, and supported some of the biggest names in the business, including Fatboy Slim, Groove Armada, Armand van Helden, and Soulwax to name but a few! Internationally, Doorly also has a very busy calendar, playing in Poland, Germany, Egypt, Australia, Austria, Ibiza, and Ukraine over the past year, and a tour of Canada and Singapore lined up for early 2009.
On the production front, Doorly is also a rising star. His major problem is that he is much more about the dance floor so he spends most of his time making cheeky re-edits to make them more DJ / dance floor friendly and make his sets sound more interesting. However this hasn’t gone unnoticed, and he’s now on with some official remixes for a huge list of bands, including being invited to remix ‘The Whip’, after winning Southern Fried Records DJ mix competition in October, and is Currently remixing for Xpress 2 on behalf of Skint Records so keep an eye on his My Space for his newest tracks including remixes for cagedbaby, Trash Fashion and the stereo MC's.
Doorly also somehow finds the time to promote club event Afterparty in his hometown of Huddersfield. The event has recently been voted Galaxy radio’s “Best club night” in their recent Nightlife Awards, and also listed as Mixmag’s number 1 club night in the UK last year. This past 6 months has seen some of the biggest acts in the dance scene come to play in the sleepy town which previously had no clubbing scene. Acts including 2manyDJs, Annie Mac, Scratch Perverts, Jon Carter, Sinden / Herve, Pete Tong and Dave Spoon have graced the Afterparty turntables.
Doorly was originally inspired by Fatboy Slim and listening to BBC Radio 1’s Essential Mix so obviously his 2 major dreams as a DJ were to play with Norman and do his own Essential Mix. Well as of April 2008 this dream was made complete!! Doorly was asked by Radio 1 to do a live Essential Mix as part of their “In New DJs We Trust” Introducing Tour. Pete Tong Selected Doorly as his favourite rising star in the uk and came to Huddersfield to introduce Doorly to the world, broadcasting his set live on Radio 1. Always considered a bench mark for quality DJ/Producers, an invite to guest on a Radio One Essential Mix is something that always brings out the best in a DJ. Doorly’s Mix was no exception receiving worldwide acclaim.
Radio 1 have continued to support Doorly, This year booking him for Creamfields and their Radio 1 weekend in Ibiza where he hosted the main stage to hype up the crowd either side of the live broadcasts. Also having got to know him over the summer Doorly was asked to record his own his pilot radio show and has been placed on the shortlist for his own show on Radio 1’s in new DJs we Trust Rotation.
Doorly Spent the full summer in Ibiza as a resident for the hugely successful Ibiza Rocks / Manumission events. Since being in Ibiza Doorly has made a massive impact and attracted interest from the many of the major club brands resulting in him playing or being booked in advance for 2009 by some of the worlds most respected Parties.
Since returning to the UK Doorly was quickly snapped up by renowned techno club Wax:ON and invited to be one of the DJ's for the "Annie Mac Presents Tour"
To Be Continued.
